China's robust automotive industry, coupled with its status as a leading automobile manufacturer, presents a highly profitable market for heavy-duty autonomous vehicle companies.

Keeping up with this trend to drive the country's market potential, on June 8, 2023, TuSimple proudly announced that it had been granted a fully driverless test license in Pudong New Area in Shanghai, China.

As per the BIS Research report, the global heavy-duty autonomous vehicle market was valued at $135.25 billion in 2022 and is anticipated to reach $1,453.20 billion by 2032, witnessing a CAGR of 27.42% during the forecast period 2023-2032.

This notable achievement not only solidifies TuSimple's position as a leader in autonomous driving technology but also marks a significant step forward in the development and testing of driverless vehicles in one of the world's largest and most dynamic automotive markets.

Here’s the Complete Story
The "Implementation Rules for Promoting the Innovation and Application of Fully Driverless Intelligent Connected Vehicles" was introduced and put into effect by Shanghai in February 2023.

This groundbreaking local legislation marks a significant milestone as the first of its kind in China, specifically designed to promote and advance the innovation and utilization of fully driverless intelligent connected vehicles.

The legislation establishes a legal framework and institutional backing that enables fully driverless intelligent connected vehicles to engage in a wide range of innovative and operational activities within the Lingang new area. These activities encompass on-road testing, demonstrations, and commercial operations, benefiting from a solid foundation and support measures provided by the new regulations.

TuSimple Became the First to Receive a Fully Driverless Test License in China
To obtain a fully driverless license, an extensive set of rigorous technical validation tests were conducted. These tests involved meticulous evaluations such as closed-area scenario testing, system simulation testing, cybersecurity testing, and open-road testing, covering extensive distances without any human intervention.

Emphasizing safety as a paramount concern, the validation tests incorporated comprehensive safety management systems, emergency response plans, and various measures to guarantee the safety, reliability, and adherence to regulations of the autonomous driving system.

China’s current heavy-duty autonomous vehicle market is $2.1 billion in 2023, which is expected to reach $131.6 billion by 2032. The growth of the heavy-duty autonomous vehicle market is driven by rising demand for autonomous driving and the integration of these vehicles in public transport, along with technological advancements.

Conclusion
The fully driverless test license obtained by TuSimple represents a remarkable endorsement of the company's cutting-edge technology and unwavering commitment to revolutionizing the future of transportation.
