COVID-19 and the resultant lockdowns in most parts of the world have brought regular operations in the society to a standstill and in these times, functioning of the agriculture industry has become more essential than ever. However, agriculture has also been affected during this pandemic with key stress areas being labor shortage, lack of demand of agri-inputs, supply chain slowdowns, and altered consumer demand for food. To respond, all stakeholders of agriculture need to reinvent themselves with precison agriculture technologies on the pillars of precision, automation, and digitalization. Government support and increased adoption of technologies such as AI, robots & drones, variable rate technology, digital marketplace, and blockchain will be important to address the situation with on-demand farm advisory, by bringing farmers closer to markets, by optimizing the application of agri-inputs, and by certifying the food security.
